Clutch-Me.Com

Learn. Make. Sell. All about clutches.

THANK YOU for your excitement!

Hey guys,

WOW!  You guys are lightning fast.  Emails are coming in fast and furious (well, not literally furious)  about the last post that popped up via the email subscription.  I just wanted to clarify that this is not related to the current PDF.  Those using your password will not be able to access it.  This is a brand new and completely different bag.  It will be available for purchase tomorrow.

My sister Y, in Florida, made a bag several months ago and got compliments on it at EVERY outing.  So I encouraged her to make a PDF so that others can learn and make to sell them as well.  It can be made using scrap fabric that I know you all have left over from making clutches and other projects.  When new PDFs are made, I have a Beta area where we upload it and test it to make sure that we can download it and it works.  We are in that stage right now.  🙂

So, as the title of the post says “Beta: Future Place to download the Reversible Patchwork Bag – Not yet available for sale! Stay tuned ….”

This is very timely because my next step is to let you know about this new exciting bag that you can add to your line of products in your shops or craft booth!  It’s very easy to do.

*As with my other PDFs, you guys know I cannot sew with a traditional (e.g. Butterick’s, McCall’s) pattern.  Like my middle child, I am a visual learner and linear thinker!  (Autism buzzwords that you might be familiar with!)

*So …there is one step per page with an accompanying picture.  It takes you step-by-step.  We have some steps just to explain and set up for the next step and require little to do!

*The PDF has also been formatted to be cut and stapled resulting in a mini instructional booklet allowing you to do one step per page.  It’s formatted so that it’s in a small size that will not take too much room on your sewing area.  You can do each step at a time and flip the page to get to the next step.  The entire PDF can be printed out on regular 8.5×11 paper on your desktop printer.

*The materials cost is minimal:  you can use beloved scrap fabric left-over from previous projects!  PDF will be priced at $8 similar to our other PDFs.

So with little money spent on materials, you can start your own craft booth and make some side income.  This project can even be hand-sewn if you don’t own a sewing machine.  (There are many who are struggling in this economy and have to pinch pennies.)  We strive to teach you a new skill that is a low-cost way to start your own business.  Just so “NO!” to quick-rich money-making scams that are on the Internet.  This is a PDF that will teach you skills to create meaningful, useful, functional and beautiful items that you can sell at your local church bazaar, school fundraiser or local crafts fair … or Etsy shop.

So here’s a look.  The listing for the PDF will be up tomorrow:  the hard copies are being formatted and will be sent to our trusty professional printer to print.  That listing will be up after we get the printed copies back from the printer.  Thy has to hand-cut and hand-assemble each book before we can ship them out.

New Reversible Patchwork Bag PDF - on sale tomorrow Jan. 13!

So stay tuned.  Once it’s listed, I’ll be back with a quick post to alert you.

THANK YOU for your interest and excitement!

Back in Stock: 12 x 3.5

Hi!!!!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years!  🙂  We’ve had our first Christmas here in Vietnam and my 9-year old said that it was “the best Christmas EVER”.   We brought along our trusty Christmas tree from Costco (and all of our other furniture and furnishings) and put up stockings on our electric fireplace mantel.  It worked to preserve and continue our Christmas traditions.  The kids were worried Santa wouldn’t know where they lived in Vietnam (they assumed New Jersey was well-known by Santa and his elves) and the fact that we have no chimney for Santa … but thanks to Norad, Elf the movie, and some great books to help explain it all.  Oh, the magic of Christmas!

My kids on Christmas Eve.

During the holidays, International schools here let kids out for three weeks in order for expat families to return back to their home countries.  And since the kids and I only got here in July, we stayed here during the holidays.  After celebrating 30+years of snowy and cold Christmases in the Midwest and NJ, it felt really weird not having the cold weather for Christmas!  I’m sure that is nothing new to those in the warm climates though.

Here’s my family holiday card to you all.  E-card this year via Smilebox!

Hope your holidays brought you many smiles. Smiling's my favorite! Name that movie (super easy...).

So with 3 kids home, you can imagine what little work I’ve got done.  But thank goodness for my sisters, Thy and Y who have been working quite hard.  Thy missed Christmas altogether due to illness!  She’s on the mend but her little one who’s only 4, is just recovering from another bout of something!  I miss the cold but I do not miss cold & flu season.

Oh, I’m a couple weeks late and giving you the news but I just want to let you all know that the 12×3.5 nickel-free frames are back in stock.  This one is a bit hard to manufacture and carry since it’s our costliest frame with all the iron and the large surface making a superb finish harder to achieve.  But with winter here and winter bags, this large, heavy and sturdy frame is ideal for the big bags.  This frame has been used to make the bigger carry-all bag.  It can support leather, vinyl, upholstery-weight and other heavier fabrics.   I designed a wide u-channel to accommodate both the heavier, thicker fabrics and the fusible interface/fleece.  The walls of the u-channel were also designed to be higher.  Check them out!

My internet connection has also been very frustratingly troublesome.  I get very slow service and when I do, I get disconnected frequently.  I have a fiber line but it gets throttled due to the servers here.  😦  Makes for long hours and a low productivity rate.  Alas, I will be back to sewing once I clear out a few things off my desk!

So since the kids went back to school today (yay, thank you teachers!), I will be able to work more (yay, my sanity returns!).  Love my kids, but I miss working.  Miss you all!  Thanks for your messages!!

Hoping you all are healthy for 2012!

If you are near, check these craft shops out!

Just read a quick article in USA Today’s Travel section.  Thought you might like to check these excellent craft shops out.

As you can see, these craft shops are trending up so if you are near, go take a look!  See what crafts are displayed.  If the store’s aesthetics fit, inquire about having them display several of your handmade, one-of-a-kind clutches!  It would be a great coup!

Check out the list of the top 10 places to shop for crafts by clicking on the pic below:

Debuting new 3×1.5 nickel-free design

Once again, thank you for your kind and thoughtful emails and convos.  My sisters and I are very touched by your notes and feel very privileged to have your friendship, loyalty, and prayers.

We have also received all your convos requesting Custom Orders to take advantage of the 2nd year anniversary sale.   Please be patient as Thy just got back to the US after a long journey (it takes 20-24 hours) and she is quite exhausted.  She will be setting up the Custom Listings and you will be notified via the convo that you sent when it is up and ready to go!  The shop will re-open on November 17th as per my previous posts and shop announcements.

I wanted to let you know first about the new production of the 3×1.5 nickel-free coin purse frames.  A minor adjustment was made:  the new kisslock balls are now 9mm.  This is the same size balls as the wallet-sized 4.5×3 purse frames.  Many of you who have used this size for these years will know that I went from small to big, and now it’s in the middle.  Why the change?  My specs were not followed (why, why, why?!?!?)  and I did not want to re-do the entire the production which would cause extra time for production (I mean, you can’t snap them off and put new kisslocks on …) not to mention the costs of manufacturing in re-acquiring more metal, production time, and new plating.  But they match the 4.5×3 size and look so awesome and just like puppies, I fell in love and kept them.  Couldn’t turn them away…. I think you will like these little buggers as much as I do!  Take a look:

3x1.5 nickel-free purse frame

Hey, one day I'll grow up to be like my older brother! Here's me next to the 4.5x3!

Uh oh, here's BIG brother 8x3 strutting his stuff! Arggggg....

One last note, in order for me to make changes to the shop such as listings and for Thy to create Custom Listings … we have to re-open the shop to use the full functionality.  **Please note that orders will not ship until the 17th and orders put in will take 72 hours to inspect, package, and ship.**  That is, your Custom Listing, though they may be up prior to the 17th and if you’ve paid, the earliest Thy will ship is the 17th.

Thank you for your support.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Kindly,

~Winn

Urgent Matter: Shop to CLOSE temporarily Oct. 26th!

I want you all to know first that the shop will close from Oct. 26th and will re-open November 17th.  This is the first time I’ve ever closed the shop but the reason is dire and I want to let you all know why.

LAST day for orders will be Oct. 25th.

Here’s why:

For those of you who’ve been with me these many years, you all have heard that “I come from a long line of great women.”  And none so great as my maternal Grandmother.  You may also know that I relocated to Viet Nam earlier this year due to my husband’s job.  My sisters, Thy and Y, have done all the operational aspects of the shops, WhileBabyNaps for fine purse frames and PurseFramesOutlet for upcycled purse frames.

Since our relocation in July, I’ve also spent this time to visit my Gram who is in very ill health and has remarkably worsened in the last 3 weeks.  She has lived a great life and we are trying to make her comfortable in her last days.  In this coming week, I have family coming from the US to visit her one final time.  Thy, who has been inspecting and shipping out your orders and doing all the convos and custom listings, will leave her own family to come here to see our Gram.  There’s been a lot of scurrying to get passports, plane ticket$, and visas.  We expect this to be the final goodbye and eventual funeral as our Gram’s condition continues to deteriorate.

I’ve been visiting her every day that I can and bringing my kids to see their Great Gram.  Here’s a pic of my oldest, 9 year old Ethan taking a little snooze next to his 98 year old Great Gram.

My friend said "It's like he's passing his young energy to her to sustain her."

Our Grandmother was the best.  She raised 6 kids and survived both my Grandfather and one child, our mother.  As is in Vietnamese tradition, she also raised all of the grandkids, including my sisters and I.  All 3 of us used to sleep with her on the same bed.   She was the one who fed us, clothed us, spanked us, hugged us, raised us, and loved us.  Since we lost our mother while we were still little, she really was our own mother for many years.  So it’s with much sadness that this amazing woman will have to leave us, but we are all comforted in knowing that she will be going to a better place.

It’s through her and stories of our paternal Grandmother as well, that we all are such strong women ourselves.   As per my previous posts, there is a reason why my business motto for WhileBabyNaps is not “The Finest Purse Frames Ever” or something to do with the products, it’s “Putting Women in Business”.  And I am sure I get that from being borne to an amazing line of women on both sides.

So in order for us to fulfill your orders in time and not over-promise, we will close the shop and our expected re-open date is November 17th.  If Thy gets back sooner then we will let you know and will re-open the shop at that time.

As far as those with Custom Orders and still unshipped orders for the nickel-free frames that I just had produced, they will be shipped out to you as soon as they come in and we expect them to come in late this week or early next week.  My other sister Y, who does the PurseFramesOutlet business is flying from FL to OH to help take care of Thy’s 2 boys and inspect and ship those outstanding orders immediately upon inspection.  All orders submitted by Oct. 25th will be shipped out to you prior to Thy’s departure.

During this time, you can still send me convos and emails.  I will work every evening to answer any questions you may have.

For those of you wanting to place an order during shop closure knowing that it will not be shipped until Nov. 17th, please email me or convo me.  We can accommodate customers who have ordered with us before since you know we will fulfill what we promise and there’s an established level of trust.

I hope that closing the shop will allow us to focus on family at this critical time.  I also hope that the decision in closing the shop and losing out on more than half of our monthly sales shows you our commitment to fulfill only what we know we can deliver.

I do apologize if this shop closure is in any way an inconvenience to any of you.  I know – fully – that you depend on our shop for your own businesses, and this decision was not done lightly.

Please stay tuned and I will keep you in the loop on the latest production, inventory restocking, and any updates.

Thank you all,

Winn

I remember … September 11.

“11” has been my favorite number since I was eight.

My first born, Ethan, was born on May 11, 2002 at 11:11 am.

I opened my Etsy shop on 11/11/09.

“11” is still my favorite number.

On September 11, 2001, I had a scheduled mid-morning flight out of O’Hare back to Newark.  I had been in Chicago staying at my brother-in-law’s house.

My niece, Lauren, had just been born a couple days earlier and I was in the hospital holding her in my arms.  She was a big baby:  she tired my inexperienced arms out quickly!

The night before on the 10th, I had just found out I was pregnant with my first child.  I was excited to go back home to New Jersey to share this exciting time with my husband.

What amazing news and time for us.

Then it happened.

*******************

Then all flights were grounded and cancelled.

I ended keeping the rental car and I was allowed to drive it back to New Jersey.

I made my way from Chicago to my dad’s in Indiana.  To my sister’s in Ohio.  Back to my husband in New Jersey.

I remember.

The joyous news of my pregnancy now juxtaposed by what we were seeing and hearing on the News.

But the creation of life in my belly gave us hope in the days and weeks ahead.

I had been at the restaurant at the top of the World Trade Centers the previous October to ‘September 11’ having great desserts with my besties Lisa and David, who would later pass of bone cancer.

This is how I remember.

“11” is still my favorite number.

Blessings to all those who died on that day, September 11, 2001.

Blessings to all those who died in the days following September 11 as a result of their heroic efforts.

Blessings to all who remember.

Get your hands on this: exemplary craftsmanship in clutches.

I run across thousands of clutches of every shape, size, and style.  I can spot good craftsmanship like an eagle can spot a field mouse.  And as someone who teaches other women the skill to make clutches so that they can make some income, I have always had the newbies start with the larger clutches as that scale is easier for novices.  As many of you know, the smaller the scale, the more precise you have to be.  You don’t have that much room to be off on your measurement, cutting, seam allowance, or sewing.  Sometimes, you are just “all thumbs”!  🙂

Many of you have purchased my 3×1.5 purse frames to make coin purses.  This allowed you to:

*expand your product line offering

*capture potential sales by offering a lower price point in your shop

*use small bits of beloved fabric leftover from bigger clutches to make a complimentary product

And you all know full well how much of a challenge this size and scale can be to make.  This, I believe, really shows where you are in the skill development of your craft.

So can you see how thrilled I was when I ran across one of these amazing coin purses showing what I believe to be one of the best displays of craftsmanship.  In one of our many convos (I sure can talk a lot, can’t I?), I mentioned to her how much I really admired her craftsmanship.  Only after I looked at her purchase history did I realize that she had started earlier this year with my $8 PDF tutorial, some glue, and a few frames!  *beaming*

Let’s take a look at the work done by Wendy at ByMyTouch.Etsy.com:

Wendy also makes bigger clutches and you can also see her fine handwork on these as well!  🙂

What makes Wendy’s work even more impressive is her story.  Wendy does all this meticulous work all the while living with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I was even more amazed by her after being reminded of this.  (I had forgotten her bio as I have lots of customers … and everyone changes their thumbnail pics all the time!)  I was so inspired after our string of convos that I wanted to bring her work, her shop, and her story to you so that you can get that spark you may need.  We all can get in a rut, even doing things that we love.  And sometimes it takes something, or someone, to inspire us to do more, to do better, to move forward with vigor and joy.  Wendy is that person.  If you are not inspired by her, you are dead to me.  1/2 joking here … 😛

Here is our Q&A.  You will find that she is a good writer as well!  Geez- what can’t she do??  🙂

Q: What is fibromyalgia? What is CFS?

I’ve had Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for 9 years and over time I was unable to work and had to close my Landscape Design business eventually becoming unemployable. It has been a long and often difficult journey towards wellness and I have now seen over 40 specialists which is not unusual for those of us with an ‘invisible illness’, so called because you can’t see what’s wrong just by looking at me – I probably look the picture of health!

Fibromyalgia is different for everyone. For me it has meant a base level of pain all the time, mainly in my neck and head which makes looking down at my sewing or cutting fabric very difficult some days. It causes a lot of severe migraines, light and sound sensitivity which are impossible to push through – if I try to I can end up spending (losing) 2-3 days in bed so I try to pay attention and just accept that I can’t do that today, but tomorrow might be better. During a bad ‘flare up’ where the symptoms get much worse, I will hurt all over – my face, my joints, my whole body except for my nails pretty much! During those times which can last for several weeks, it can be very hard to work and if I try I only make the symptoms worse. The trick to it is to be as productive as possible, without overdoing things to cause flare ups because then I lose so much time that overall I make less than if I went a little slower. It’s a constant juggling act and some days I’m better at it than others.

The CFS is easier to describe – I just feel exhausted. A simple example is having a shower and then drying my hair immediately is beyond me. I need to have a rest in between. So when I’m making a purse, I usually have to do it in several stages with rests in between.

Q: What is your biggest challenge?

Knowing that Fibro dictates everything I do. I am one of life’s ‘doers’. Unfortunately the fibro has meant making accommodations and adaptations continually which often goes against what I want to do.
Energy and concentration are the other biggest challenges because feeling so tired makes it hard to concentrate and I’ve learned that creativity doesn’t mix well with poor attention – mistakes happen, then frustration sets in and if I don’t feel good about what I’ve made, I will not offer it for sale. I’m detail oriented and regardless of what I am making, I want it to be the very best quality design and construction that it can be. Perfection does not exist, but I try very hard!

Q: What do you do to get around these challenges?

I try to pay attention to my symptoms and I know when to stop (I’ve had a lot of practice!). I have a very flexible routine that helps me be as productive as possible – I check my shops first thing each morning, renewing items that have expired, responding to messages etc. Inspiration usually comes the evening before so I am always excited to start making something. Depending on what it is and how I’m feeling I may simply get all the elements together, then after a rest I might cut the pieces out, another step might be to pin everything together. By this point if I’m not feeling well enough to actually start sewing I’m probably feeling frustrated so I get round this by getting everything prepared the night before so that I can get straight on with it in the morning.

It takes me longer to make anything, and as you can see, I have to break any project down into individual stages. Because the majority of my items are one-of-a-kind, I do not create a production line. I’ve done this a couple of times and without exception the frustration of seeing several purses all laid out ready to be made but not having the energy to make them, not only overwhelms me so I grind to a halt, but I’ve found that I don’t enjoy making them because the creativity isn’t there when I’m simply repeating the same designs one after the other.

I have a wonderful large oak drawing board (3’ x 5’) that I used when I was a landscape designer. I’ve laid it horizontal and it raised up to about 4’ so that I can work standing up – this is a huge help because it means I’m not bending over anything with the weight of my head pulling against very tender muscles. It also means I am constantly moving around which helps keep the muscle moving and the blood and oxygen flowing.

Q: What is the inspiration behind your shop’s name?

I think you’ll laugh at this! I had a series of surgeries in 2009 and they necessitated months of bed rest. After the first really big surgery I was on the strongest pain meds and therefore slightly loopy. I had heard about Etsy and when I visited the site, it invited me to sign in. Every name I chose was taken and after more than ½ an hour continually typing in names, I lost patience and just started typing in anything, then to my horror up popped a welcome message! I had no clue of the name I’d typed but fortunately it turned out to be one I liked and wasn’t rude!

Q: Tell me about your charitable contributions from sales of your goods.

Volunteering and donating to charity has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Like many families during this recession, my husband lost his job and we could no longer afford to sponsor a child in Mozambique which we had been doing for years or make any other donation, so I decided to try to earn the money. I had been making some cards and bags for fun as therapy to recover from my surgeries (there was very little I could do at this point, but I could stand at the sewing machine for a few minutes). By February 2010 I’d got the bug and started designing and making things in earnest with the sole aim of raising money for charity. Originally I donated the profits but that didn’t quantify an amount for my customers and the costs of running a business and all that goes with it meant that with only occasional sales, I didn’t have anything left over to donate, so this Spring I changed that to guaranteeing 10% of every bag/purse sale and $1 per card. I know that in business terms this is not wise as it means the charities get paid first regardless of the supplies, fees, business occupation taxes etc that need to be covered too, but I want my customers to know that every purchase supports a charity.

Q: Do you sell your goods elsewhere other than Etsy?

Yes. I have been lucky enough to be invited to sell my items in two local boutiques. I do occasionally get offered wholesale accounts but I am reluctant to accept because I may not be able to make anything for a few weeks if I’m going through a particularly bad flare up of the fibro symptoms or the fatigue.

Q: What else would you like your customers to know about you and/or your goods? Your creative vision? Your design aesthetics?

About me: that I refuse to let the fibro have me, so try not to focus on it more than necessary, but at the same time, I made a promise to myself to be willing to try just about anything to get well – and I’ve stuck to that!

About my goods: that every item is made with great attention to detail, original designs and unique finishing touches. The love and passion for what I am making and why I’m making it is as much a part of my products as the materials I use. I have spent countless hours since I started the shop researching and sourcing materials that are the finest quality, eco-friendly and vegan. I actively seek out companies that behave with integrity – they might be fair trade for example, or have similar ideals to me. Organic fabrics designed by smaller manufacturers are my main source in recent months as I want to support those that love our planet as much as I do and it also makes my purses unique. Mass produced anything is not for me!

I especially enjoy using an unusual and perhaps unexpected fabric choice, such as organic cotton canvas for a clutch purse, embellished with my hand embroidered buttons for example. I’m a square peg in a round hole, and very happy to be so. I guess my goods reflect that!

**I hope you are as inspired by her as I am.  Please leave your comments and be sure to visit her shop.  She makes amazing bags of all kinds!**

I will feature one shop seller per 3-4 weeks.  I hope you find this to be a great start!  If any you have your own blogs, please SHARE THIS.  You can also SHARE THIS by using any of the buttons below this post.  Let’s spread the word!

Fabric shopping for fall!

With fall around the corner in the US, you might want to get ahead of the curve and get your Fall Collection planned out.  I see that many of you have already started your fall lines by ordering Gutermann glue and purse frames.  Next is the fabric!

As I’ve mentioned in my many previous posts, I will be looking for fabrics while residing here in Viet Nam for my short 2.5 years!  And good news guys … I’ve hit the mother-load!  Let me explain.

The traffic here consists of pedestrian, bicycles, automobiles, motorcycles, and about 50% of the entire traffic is motorbikes or motor-scooters.  They are not as powerful as the motorcycle, and are similar to the branded Vespas that you would see in Europe, for example.  This picture captures it all beautifully:

You've got it all in here. Loose rules that can leave you wondering just how everyone manages to make it from one side to the other!

That said, my husband’s employer provides our family with a rental car and driver.  There’s no way expats can take the test and drive over here (especially when we are only here for a short period of time).  In addition, vehicles are prohibitively expensive.  Whatever you would pay for in the US for your vehicle, double that price for here!

And to get to my original point of this post – the fabric – it turns out that our driver used to fix sewing machines and knows ALL the fabric mills in the city!!!  🙂

When the kids are attending school in August, I will be able to shop in earnest.  I’m so excited to see the silks, cottons, and hand-embroidered fabrics.  This place is Etsy come to real life:  all are handmade by artisans!

Here’s a pic I snapped of one fabric shop.  Look at the variety!

Every inch is covered with all kinds of fabric imaginable!

Like you going through the bolts at Joanne’s, I will have to dig through to find the designs and styles that are really magnificent and remarkable!  I generally hate shopping but I can spend all day looking at fabric.

Here’s how shopping can look like over here — barely enough room through maneuver through but it’s worth the hunt!

The bazaar! Shoppers are very gracious but the sellers are quite pushy! All Westerners and expats have virtual targets on their face$!

So head out and start your journey for fabrics for your clutches.  With new offerings for fall, this is a great way to freshen up your shop to prevent it from being too stale:  give your customers a reason to take another look!

1.  Plan out your Fall collection and colors.  Read Vogue, Marie Claire, Lucky, InStyle … any of the national magazines and find the trends that are being reported.  What clutches can you sell that will compliment your buyers’ fall palettes? Last I heard, lace is in for this fall.

2. Start your fabric search and look for the colors and fabric designs that you want for your Fall Collection.   Remember to save fabrics with big, bold designs for your bigger clutches and bags.  The fabrics with smaller motifs can be used for the smaller clutches, wallets and coin purses.

3.  Go back to your stock of fabric and pull from those any remnants that can compliment as well.  I only throw the smallest of my fabric away.   I keep it all!  I use the smallest pieces that I can no longer find for use in the Snappy(TM) Wallet Clutch:  the ID pocket needs only a tiny rectangle of beloved fabric!  I also use slightly bigger pieces as lining for my coin purse clutches!

4.  Lay out your frames and mix and match inner and outer fabrics with the different frames.  This allows you to visually see what your boutique or online shop will look like when you’re done.  You will see where you may be short on one size purse frame or short on a certain fabric, and you will have time to buy as needed.

Shops that have a cohesive and strong aesthetic really do well.  Shops that offer willy-nilly don’t do as well, because the customers get confused.  Brand identity is so important and critical to shops.  Shops that stick to what they are good at and that exhibit great craftsmanship do really well.

And remember to take good pics!  If it takes you 3 minutes to take a good picture of each clutch, remember that 2 minutes of 45 seconds of that should be spent setting up the shot: lighting, positioning, focusing …. and then snap!  I see lots of clutches that are shot poorly.  Why spend all your time and effort in making the clutch only to ruin the chances of selling it by having a bad photo?

For those of you who own your own boutique or sell in your local boutique, spend the time to have it displayed in a nice case with good lighting.  Have the display ones be the ones that customers can touch and feel and open, but be sure to sell them the unopened and tissue-wrapped one.  After the display sample has been handled, remember to wipe off fingerprints and lightly dust the fabric.

Hope your summer is going well!  Oh …. one last thing!  Pax is here!  He’s been here for a week and has adjusted splendidly.  Just like in NJ, Pax hops in the van when we go shopping!  (Pax gets to stay in the van with the AC on with our driver while the kids and I run in to get groceries.)  Everywhere we go, every day and every time that I walk him, he gets attention!  He’s a superstar here.  His breed (goldendoodle) is non-existent here.  I don’t even think anyone has even seen a poodle, much less a golden doodle.  So they ask:

*Is he a goat?

*Do you perm his hair?

*Where is he from?

The van is usually surrounded by 4-6 people looking at Pax!  I feel like I’ve got Lindsey Lohan or some other starlet in there!  🙂  LOL.  And everyone who comes in contact with him just loves him to pieces.  Everything just seemed to fall into place upon Pax’s arrival.  That loud sound of exhaling?  That’s me!  Here’s a pic of Hayley with Pax.

Pax petered out after our morning walk. It's cooler here than the current heatwave in the US! He loves lounging on Hayley and on the cold tile floor.

That’s all for now.  I’ll be back soon!

Settling in our new home for 3 years!

Thanks to all who convo’d or emailed asking how I’ve been doing.  As most of you have known since January, my husband was relocated to Viet Nam and had been working there since this March.  The kids and I have finally joined him after the school year was done and I’m pleased to say … we’re finally here!

Where is here?  Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.

Our household furnishings will arrive in 2 months so I’m blogging and working while sitting on the tile floor or on what little rental furniture we have.  But my dream of living where I can wear flip-flops year round is finally here.  I just didn’t count on the mosquitoes though!  🙂

Here are some pics.  Enjoy and as soon as I can get WiFi hooked up and my regular Mac desktop plugged into that, I can really start working again.  The sewing will be done at the kitchen table, not unlike many of you who start out making clutches!  Lastly, thanks to all who have tried the Snappy Clutch Wallets and the PurseFramesOutlet shop.  The feedback has far surpassed what I had expected and it really made working on that design for 6 months and finessing the photos and tutorial soooooo worth it!

Our home for the next 3 years.

We live 3 houses away from a playground and skateboard park. Kids have their gear and are getting to go!

We have a pool in the front yard! The kids swim twice or three times a day for about 1.5 to 2 hours each time.

My 5 year old daughter Hayley at the park.

My 2 boys at the adjacent skateboard park.

My 6 year old son Noah in deep sleep. The 11 hours time change took a week to really get used. They were sleeping by 5pm and waking up at 3am for the first week!

We’re all still adjusting.  I haven’t had much time to work since it’s summer break and I cannot get to work until they are in bed at 8pm.   I know a great many of you have young children and are also facing this same issue:  the increased familial demands as the kids are on summer break.

No worries on your shop sales during summer months as you will see activity pick up in the fall when the kids are back at school.  Remember that it’s cyclical!  Be sure to start your production of new clutches in August so that you will have new collections for customers to see.  School will start before you know it and the Fall Collections should be ready by September.

One important note for those of you who have expanded into local boutiques and into arts and crafts shows:  make sure you have your fall collection ready to show the shops and make sure you pre-register to take advantage of discounts for fall craft shows.  My best sources for color palettes are the national magazines – Vogue being the main barometer.

I’ll be in touch again with pictures of my garden.  The garden came pre-planted with the house and the variety in textures, colors, and composition is amazing.  Puts my gardening skills to shame!  🙂

Have a splendid weekend!

Snappy(TM) Wallet clutch – download the latest version!

Hi all from the other side of the world!  I made it here fine and after 5 days on the ground, the kids are just starting to adjust to the local time.  It’s p.m. here to your a.m.  There’s currently 11 hours difference than East Coast time!
I will post pics when I can find my camera cord to the computer.  I just got the Internet up and running today so I thought I’d do a quick post before hitting the sack!  I’ve been running around getting things done for the house here as we have only what we packed in our luggage.  Our air shipment won’t be here for another 10 days.  Many things are needed just to make a meal:  eg. after I boiled the spaghetti, I realized I didn’t have a strainer,  and when I went to cut the mango, I didn’t have a knife.  Little things that cause you to improvise…  🙂

Just a note for those who bought the Snappy(TM) Wallet Clutch, please use your existing password to access the tutorial that I recently updated.  I revised Step #1 to include a new picture and notes to trim your templates to fit the width of the frame before tracing them onto the interface.  What 2 of you have done is cut on the outside edge of the template causing extra length, which can cause puckering.  To prevent this, you only have to trim it to fit.

Please go to the PDF Order and sign in to download the most recent tutorial.  The templates remain the same.  I will make changes and additions to this tutorial and add new templates as time goes on, but please keep your password, which you can use to access it for free.  (If you lose it, it will be $5 to resend it to you.)

Thank you for the photos of your Snappy wallet clutches!  I love the variations.  Keep them coming!

Thanks and I’ll post again soon.
